AAA Editor Notes
Hamill House, 305 Argentine St., was built in 1879. The restored home of silver mine owner William Arthur Hamill, who was also the first state senator from Clear Creek County, railroad commissioner, and head of the Republican Party, demonstrates the wealth and opulence of the late-19th-century silver boom in Colorado. The home had central heating, gaslights and running water before most of the community had heard of such things. It also has a six-seat, cupola-topped privy, a granite-constructed stable, a carriage house and an office building.
