Sutter Buttes

Sutter Buttes are 10 mi. w. on Butte House Rd. Sometimes referred to as the world's smallest mountain range, this brooding cluster of dark rocks rises some 2,000 feet and covers about 75 square miles. The buttes are a volcanic upthrust formation, something of a geologic anomaly for this area, and are popular with nature lovers, who enjoy the abundant bird life and wildflowers. Although much of the region is private property, visitors can join nature study groups and guided hikes.
