Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve

Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is 3.5 mi. e. of SR 1 on Dolan Rd., then 1.9 mi. n. to 1700 Elkhorn Rd. This 1,700-acre coastal area protects the habitat of hundreds of species of birds, fish and invertebrates. It is an important feeding and nesting ground for many waterfowl and migratory shorebirds. Walking trails wind beneath a canopy of coastal live oak trees and along fingers of salt marsh. The reserve's visitor center has educational displays.

Picnicking is permitted near the visitor center; smoking is prohibited. Dogs and bicycles are not permitted.
