Lindsay Wildlife Experience

Lindsay Wildlife Experience, 1931 First Ave., wears three hats: natural history museum, environmental education center and wildlife rehabilitation hospital. Visitors can, however, see more than 50 species of non-releasable native California animals, along with changing natural history and art exhibits. Other facilities include a pet education center and a hands-on discovery room for children. The exhibit Raptors: Hunters in the Sky features several interactive displays and a model raptor. At Wildlife Hospital: Behind the Scenes, visitors can observe the work of veterinary staff and volunteers behind one-way glass; more than 5,000 injured and orphaned wild animals are cared for each year.

Kids can participate in a rock-climbing activity. Also on site are a functioning beehive and a burrowing animals exhibit with a crawl-through tunnel. A life-size model of the Balancing Rock formation atop nearby Mount Diablo, complete with representations of native plants and animals, rises two stories through an opening in the ceiling.
