AAA Editor Notes
Vikingsholm, at the southwest end of Emerald Bay, is a 38-room reproduction of a ninth-century Norse castle/fortress. Built in 1929 to be a summer home, it stands in a grove of pine and cedar trees.
Note: Limited parking is available in the parking lot off SR 89 at Emerald Bay for $10; from the parking lot the home can be reached by a steep 1-mile hiking trail. Parking also is available for $8 (July through August only) at nearby Eagle Point in Emerald Bay State Park; a 1.7-mile, less steep trail leads from the park's day-use area to Vikingsholm. Bus service to the parking lot is available from the North and South shores.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
