Montalvo Arts Center and Arboretum

Montalvo Arts Center and Arboretum is .5 mi. s.e. on SR 9, then 1 mi. s.w. on Montalvo Rd. Formerly the summer home of U.S. senator and San Francisco mayor James D. Phelan, the estate now serves as a center for fine arts. The 1912 Mediterranean-style villa has a formal garden and trails to lookout points on the surrounding hills. A 10-studio artist residency complex, two performing arts venues and the Project Space Gallery are on the grounds. Two-hour walking tours of the villa and Montalvo’s trails are offered. One-hour tours of the villa are offered July-August.
