Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is 9 mi. e. of Crescent City on US 199. Named for 19th-century fur trapper Jedediah Strong Smith, the state park includes a section of the lovely Smith River in addition to preserving thousands of acres of ancient redwoods. Trails accessible from turnouts on US 199 include the Hiouchi Trail and Hatton Loop.
Visitors can reach Stout Memorial Grove via Howland Hill Road, an unimproved stage route not suitable for RVs or trailers.
