Fern Canyon

Fern Canyon is off US 101 at the end of Davison Rd. in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. This gorge features 30-foot-high walls covered with delicate five-fingered and sword ferns. Water seeping from the walls keeps the luxuriant foliage moist and green throughout the year. A loop trail leads along one side and down into the canyon, although runoff sometimes floods the chasm's floor. The 4.5-mile James Irvine Trail connects Fern Canyon to the Prairie Creek Visitor Center.

Note: Trailers are prohibited on the narrow, unpaved road to the canyon.
