The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, 1.5 mi. s. off SR 111 at 47900 Portola Ave., is a 1,200-acre wildlife and botanical park featuring rare plants in 12 ecosystems and 140 animal species from the world's deserts. Among the animals are bighorn sheep, zebras, giraffes, mountain lions, Mexican wolves, camels, leopards, hyenas and birds of prey. Live animal shows, a children's play park and hiking trails are available.
