Tor House is on Carmel Point at 26304 Ocean View Ave. Perched on a rugged promontory overlooking a dramatic coastline, the 1918 home provided the creative backdrop for poet Robinson Jeffers, who received such guests as Charlie Chaplin, George Gershwin and Edna St. Vincent Millay. Tor is Celtic for an outcropping of rock. Docents guide visitors through the house, the English gardens and Hawk Tower, which Jeffers built himself by transporting stones from the beach.
