First Theatre and Garden

First Theatre and Garden, Pacific and Scott sts. within Monterey State Historic Park, once was a lodging house for sailors as well as the first venue in town to charge admission for a theatrical performance. The 1846 building contains early California historical artifacts. Succulents and cypress trees grace the garden.

Note: The garden remains open to visitors, but tours of the theater have been discontinued for the foreseeable future. Phone ahead for information regarding a possible reopening.
