The Society of California Pioneers Museum and Research Library

The Society of California Pioneers Museum and Research Library is at 101 Montgomery St. in the Presidio of San Francisco. Changing exhibits in Pioneer Hall highlight California's 19th-century history and heritage. The society's collections, amassed by pioneer families and their descendants, include 19th- and early 20th-century paintings, artifacts, photographs and manuscripts.

The Alice Phelan Sullivan Research Library contains more than 10,000 books, manuscripts, maps, journals and autobiographical materials pertaining to the state's early history. Its holdings include pioneer diaries that belonged to John A. Sutter and Henry W. Bigler, primary sources that document the discovery of gold in California. Educational programs and events are offered regularly.
