Queen Califia's Magical Circle

Queen Califia's Magical Circle is in Kit Carson Park off Las Palmas Dr. and Bear Valley Pkwy. S. Turn w. on Las Palmas Dr., then s. into the park immediately after L.R. Green School, and w. at Iris Sankey Magical Trail to reach the parking lot.
This walk-in whimsical sculpture garden by artist Niki de Saint Phalle is bounded by an undulating 4- to 9-foot-high wall embedded with stones and topped with brilliantly colored mosaic snakes. The entrance leads to a maze of black, white and mirror mosaic surfaces to the Magical Circle, which contains very large mosaic figures. Visitors can walk beneath the figure of Queen Califia atop her massive eagle. The domed area under the eagle is a miniature “temple” decorated with cosmic symbols and ceramic plaques. Many of the tiles used are reflective or mirrored, and the colors are rich and vibrant.
Picnicking is permitted within the surrounding park. Guided tours are available by appointment.
