California Botanic Garden, 1500 N. College Ave., contains 86 acres dedicated to the cultivation and display of native Californian plants and flowers. The garden is divided into three distinct areas and contains more than 6 miles of trails.
Indian Hill Mesa is a flat-topped hill featuring plant strains originated under cultivation, as well as wild species of plants native to California. The East Alluvial Gardens include plantings native to California deserts, coastal dunes and the Channel Islands, while the Plant Communities display native specimens in a naturalistic setting. The garden is most colorful February through May.
Tours: Docent-led garden tours and bird walks are offered; phone ahead to confirm schedule.
