USS Hornet Museum

USS Hornet Museum is docked within the former naval air station at Alameda Point. This aircraft carrier served in World War II and Vietnam and as the prime recovery ship for the Apollo 11 and 12 missions, retrieving astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin following their splash-down re-entry after walking on the moon. Space artifacts, aircraft, helicopters and restored areas of the ship can be seen on guided tours. Visitors get a feel for life aboard a carrier without having to enlist.
