Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is off Hwy. 1 exit 14, then 2 km (1.2 mi.) n. to 3735 Capilano Rd.; a free shuttle is available from several locations in downtown Vancouver. The swinging 137-metre-long (450 ft.) footbridge spans a 70-metre-deep (230 ft.) densely wooded gorge above the Capilano River. George Grant Mackay, a Scottish civil engineer, built the original bridge in 1889 from hemp rope and cedar planks; the fourth structure on the site is reinforced with steel cables and concrete.

The park also features gardens; Kiapalano; Treetops Adventure, a series of seven suspension bridges high in the treetops; Cliffwalk, a cliffside walkway with a rock-climber's view of the canyon; and a story center that displays artifacts of the bridge. The Living Forest includes interactive displays and naturalist exhibits which guide visitors through a West Coast rain forest. From late November through late January during Canyon Lights, A Winter Lights Festival, the bridge, Treetops Adventure, Cliffwalk and rainforest twinkle with lights.

Wheelchairs are not permitted on the attractions.
