Remote Passages Marine Excursions departs from Tofino harbor off Main St. at 51 Wharf St. Passengers have a choice of an open-air zodiac or a boat with an enclosed cabin and a viewing deck for their 2.5- to 3-hour journey through Clayoquot Sound to spot gray and humpback whales (and occasionally orcas), sea otters, sea lions, seals, porpoises, sea birds and bald eagles. March through May encompasses the gray whale migration, while June through October is when gray and humpback whales linger in the area. Bear-watching tours, daily trips to Hot Springs Cove and sea kayaking trips also are available.

Warm clothing is recommended.
