Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center

Janet Huckabee Arkansas River Valley Nature Center is on Wells Lake at 8300 Wells Lake Rd. The nature center, on 170 acres that were part of the Fort Chaffee Army base, has interactive exhibits that provide information about the Ouachita and Ozark mountains, an aquarium with fish from the Arkansas River and a representation of a giant oak tree.

Several nature trails surround the visitor center, providing opportunities to see wildlife such as beavers, raccoons and deer. A fishing pier also is available. Educational and recreational programs are offered, including guided hikes and staff-assisted canoeing and kayaking.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
