AAA Editor Notes
South Kaibab Trail begins near Yaki Point, 3.5 mi. e. of Grand Canyon Village. This is a steep, 7-mile trail to a Colorado River suspension bridge. A good 3-mile round-trip day hike leads from the head of South Kaibab Trail to Cedar Ridge, where beautiful views of the canyon may be seen.
Note: Visitors should not attempt to hike from the South Rim to the river and back in 1 day. The Kaibab Trail is strenuous and not recommended for hiking out of the canyon. The trip is recommended only for hardy individuals. Hikers should carry water (1 gallon per person per day), since none is available along the trail. The road to the trailhead is closed to private vehicles and may be reached by shuttle bus.
