John's Butterfly House

John's Butterfly House is at the Windmill Garden Centre at 920 1st St. S.W. This lush, enclosed tropical garden circles a koi pond and is home to between 400 and 500 butterflies as well as turtles and a few birds, including button quail. Stock is brought in continuously so the butterflies on hand are always changing; some of the more exotic species include the tiger swallowtail, postman, paper kite, scarlet and blue morpho butterflies. You also may catch a glimpse of the fascinating Atlas moth, a large saturniid moth commonly found in Southeast Asia.

Take a leisurely stroll along the curving walkways or camp out on a wooden footbridge or on the observation deck and watch as these beautiful creatures flutter about. Information boards provide details about the life cycles and habits of the site's winged inhabitants.
