The Oaks is on W. Montgomery Rd. at Tuskegee University, part of Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site (1200 W. Montgomery Rd.); tours begin from the Carver Museum. This is the former home of Booker T. Washington, who lived here from 1900 until his death in 1915. Dignitaries who visited the home included presidents Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt as well as philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The restored 1899 Queen Anne-style house is furnished with period items and contains his study.
