The Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab
AAA Editor Notes
The Estuarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab, just past the ferry landing at 102A Bienville Blvd., is a public aquarium focusing on the four key ecosystems of coastal Alabama—the swamps of the Mobile-Tensaw River delta, Mobile Bay, the barrier islands and the Gulf of Mexico. A boardwalk can be followed through a salt marsh; descriptive panels identify local vegetation and wildlife. Interactive exhibits, aquariums and touch tanks depict one of the country's largest estuary systems.
An American alligator, crabs, eels, jellyfish, lobsters, an octopus, oysters, sharks, shrimp, turtles and various types of fish are some of the marine life that can be seen.
