Sixteenth Street Baptist Church, downtown at 1530 6th Ave. N. at jct. 16th St., is where four young girls died in a 1963 Sunday morning bombing that became a pivotal event in the Civil Rights Movement. A 45-minute video program recounts the event and the role this African American church played in shaping local and national history. A stained-glass window donated by the people of Wales commemorates the tragedy.
