Anniston Museum of Natural History is at 800 Museum Dr., at jct. SR 21 and US 431 in Lagarde Park. The Birds of the Americas Exhibit Hall features more than 400 specimens of North American birds, including extinct and endangered species collected by 19th-century naturalist William Werner.
Other highlights are the Environments of Africa Hall, containing more than 100 African animals displayed in simulated natural settings; a walk-through re-creation of an Alabama cave; Egyptian mummies; and a temporary exhibit gallery. The Dynamic Earth depicts the planet's formation and includes minerals, fossils, gemstones and dinosaurs. Nature Space offers a large learning area with hands-on activities. Nature trails and gardens are on the grounds.
Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
