Museum of Tequila and Mezcal (Museo de Tequila y Mezcal, or MUTEM) is off Av. República de Honduras at Plaza Garibaldi, about 5 blks. n. of the Palace of Fine Arts (M: Garibaldi, line 8). If your travel itinerary doesn't include the town of Tequila in Jalisco state, a visit to this museum is the next best thing to taking one of Tequila's distillery tours. Exhibits provide an overview of tequila production and emphasize the Mexican history associated with tequila, which is distilled from the spiny blue agave plant. There's a noteworthy collection of vintage tequila bottles. Visitors can also sample a complimentary tequila mini-shot while relaxing on the rooftop terrace overlooking the plaza and its roving mariachi bands.

Guided tours are available. Food is available.
