The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
AAA Editor Notes
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), 11 W. 53rd St., offers a survey of modern and contemporary paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and plans, design objects, films and videos. High ceilings, expansive spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows contribute to the building's stunning design. The museum is punctuated by such curiosities as a helicopter suspended from the ceiling and a sculpture garden decorated with eye-catching modern and contemporary works. You might want to begin exploring the collections at the top level and work your way downstairs, as the upper floors of the six-story complex contain some of MoMA's most renowned works while the lower floors display rotating works.
You can see frequently viewed pieces such as Salvador Dali's “The Persistence of Memory,” Claude Monet's “Water Lilies” and Vincent van Gogh's “The Starry Night.” Other artists represented include Andy Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Cindy Sherman, Elizabeth Murray and Jacob Lawrence. Classic, artistic or documentary movies are shown daily.
Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
