14.5 miles: 37 minutes
Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Drive one of the highest paved roads in the world, nearly reaching the summit of 14,260-foot Mount Evans. This narrow byway winds its way up the mountainside through an austere, boulder-strewn landscape with sheer drop-offs and no guard rails. Not for the faint-of-heart, Mount Evans Road rewards visitors with stunning 360-degree views of the Rocky Mountains.

Ending just below the summit, Mount Evans Road treats drivers to amazing high-altitude views at every hairpin turn. At the top, visitors can pause among the Crest House ruins to breathe crisp, cool air and enjoy the scenery, or they can hike to the very top for a panorama taking in Denver to the east and mountains receding to the horizon in every other direction.
