A former railway line between Colorado Springs and the gold mines up in the mountains, the scenic section of Gold Camp Road is a winding, paved byway that climbs from Colorado Springs’ western suburbs into the granite mountains of Pike National Forest. It passes near Cheyenne Mountain, offering glimpses of the valley below. Use the pullouts provided to fully appreciate the view.

Gold Camp Road is an often dusty, winding, one-lane track through heavily forested mountains, and with steep, guardrail-less drops along the way, it’s not for the faint of heart. It does, however, reward brave drivers with amazing views of picturesque weathered granite spires as well as sprawling Colorado Springs at the base of the Front Range.
