Uninhabited and starkly scenic, the 90-mile stretch of SR 305 cuts through the vast flatlands of Nevada's Reese River Valley, with low mountains providing a bit of vertical contrast. No towns and only a handful of isolated ranches underscore the loneliness and austere beauty of the Great Basin Desert. A rest area marks the halfway point between Austin and Battle Mountain.

Two-lane Reese River Valley Scenic Drive lies in a remote area of central Nevada. The land is hilly and covered in sagebrush as it gradually climbs into the foothills of Ravenswood Mountain. Near the Reese River, meadows, abandoned ranch buildings and weathered boulders offer some interesting landscapes before flat terrain takes over as the road runs ruler-straight to Battle Mountain.
