Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. A short drive up the arid eastern flank of the Sierra Nevada, Lake Sabrina Scenic Road (SR 168) ascends quickly from the small town of Bishop up into Inyo National Forest following Bishop Creek. The route ends at Lake Sabrina, a picturesque reservoir behind a dam, and all along the way, the jagged, snow-dusted peaks of the Sierra Nevada loom in the distance.

Although the trip from Bishop to Lake Sabrina enters Inyo National Forest, you won’t see many trees until the town of Aspendell, where lodgepole pines finally begin to appear. Campgrounds dot the route, and hiking trails along the boulder-strewn shoreline of Lake Sabrina lead into John Muir Wilderness, which embraces some of the highest peaks in the Lower 48 states.
