Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. Sunrise Road features breathtaking views of ice-capped Mount Rainier and the Cascade Range. Open seasonally, the two-lane road twists around steep, forested mountain slopes within Mount Rainier National Park to Sunrise, the highest point in the park accessible by car (6,100 feet). An entrance fee is charged near the beginning of the route.

Thick forests of towering trees give way to inspiring vistas as Sunrise Road climbs to higher elevations, with numerous switchbacks and pullouts along the route. Stop at Sunrise Point for a panorama of the Cascades, then continue on to Sunrise, the northeastern viewing point for Mount Rainier. Wildflowers bloom near Sunrise from mid-July to mid-August.
