US 89, a two-lane highway, offers unobstructed views from your car window. The variety of scenery includes mountains, rolling hills, forests and farmland. Travel the western shores of Bear Lake near the Idaho and Utah border.
This route takes you through the southern tip of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, past green mountainsides and Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The lower foothills of US 89 texture the farmlands with a grassy sea between the historic towns of Montpelier and Paris. Then proceed along the western shore of Bear Lake with its turquoise waters.
