Only a few miles from the Canadian border, the two-lane Turtle Mountain Scenic Byway runs through the small town of St. John and on through wooded pasture land under big skies. Along the way the forested Turtle Mountain plateau is home to several wildlife refuges interspersed with calm lakes.
