18.7 miles: 26 minutes
SR 123 strings together a number of charming New England communities, including Hancock, home to one of New Hampshire’s oldest bed-and-breakfasts (The Hancock Inn & Fox Tavern) and the sun-kissed waters of Norway Pond. Pull off the road to explore the hilly region’s dense forests or to snap a few pics of the idyllic natural landscape accentuated by Mount Monadnock on the horizon.

Around each curve of this scenic byway is a quaint town, lovely mountain vista or tranquil pond. While the nostalgic terrain dotted by red barns and white clapboard houses makes for a pleasant drive just about any time of year, the route is especially gorgeous in early October, when the dense woods flanking the two-lane highway explode in a riot of fall color.
