Seasonal route: The road is subject to closure in winter. A slow pace up Mount Mansfield Auto Toll Road gives you a bird's-eye view of Stowe Mountain Resort and the Green Mountains. This single-lane road without guardrails quickly climbs to Mount Mansfield’s summit ridge for a spectacular panorama from Vermont’s highest mountain. Note: The gate is locked at 5 p.m.
Your zigzag ascent to 4,000 feet, past boulders and exposed mountainsides, is well worth the careful drive on the Mount Mansfield Auto Toll Road. Beech, yellow birch and spruce trees—featuring striking foliage in fall—canopy your journey, unexpectedly opening their arms to a grand vista of mountainside ski runs and Smugglers' Notch. Look west at the summit to view the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain.
