Reaching an elevation of almost 3,000 feet, Kancamagus Highway (SR 112) winds through the White Mountain National Forest. On the east section of the byway, the pristine beauty of the Swift River peeks through the trees, as it does for the Pemigewasset River in the west. Moose thrive in the forests that come alive with color in the fall.

The east side of the Kancamagus Highway offers views of the Swift River and the mountains rising over the trees. Continuing the drive through the White Mountain National Forest, the 2,860-foot Kancamagus Pass is the apex of the route before it descends into the Pemigewasset Valley. Changing colors in the fall make this byway popular among leaf peepers.
