27.3 miles: 39 minutes
US 44 is a hilly drive through small, antique-rich towns to the high mountains of the Canaan Mountain Range. Woodsy patches of trees and occasional rocky outcroppings cover much of the byway as it twists and turns through the mountainous terrain.

The wooded New England countryside along US 44 is dotted by Colonial homes and small towns as it curves around mountains, gently climbing in elevation through the Litchfield Hills region. Fall draws leaf peepers and winter lures skiers, but spring and summer attracts everyone to this pretty byway.
