Fishook-Willow Road is a journey through Alaska’s backcountry, across the Talkeetna Mountains, to the ruins of the Independence Mine. The route crosses Hatcher Pass on a narrow, switchback road, but pullouts offer views of an alpine wilderness with rocky peaks and forested valleys. NOTE: Hatcher Pass is closed November-May (dates based on snow conditions).

Ascend through the western edge of Talkeetna Mountains to elevations above the timberline. Fall offers colorful autumn ground foliage that is truly breathtaking, and wildflowers blanket meadows and roadsides in spring. The Fishhook-Willow Road is often skirted by creeks and rivers that rush past over giant boulders. Hatcher Pass is a popular winter-sports area.
