Overall Observations
For 2024, Audi's flagship electric SUV, the midsize e-tron, has
been given a refresh. Changes include a larger battery with more
range, faster charging capability, changes to the steering and
suspension, a new grille and other cosmetic tweaks—and a new
name, the Q8 e-tron.
The Q8 e-tron covers nearly all the bases. Styling is quite
sporty for an SUV: Its sculpted, creased sheet metal and sloping
hood make it appear to be moving even when it's standing
still. Its twin electric motors deliver strong, smooth power and
torque. Ride quality is good, thanks to the standard adaptive air
suspension. All-wheel drive is standard.
Both front- and back-seat passengers will find plenty of
headroom and legroom in the Q8 e-tron's spacious cabin, and
interior fit and finish is up to Audi's typical high standards. The list
of amenities includes heated and ventilated front seats, heated
rear seats, a complete set of advanced safety features, quad-zone
automatic climate control, a premium sound system, and even a
compact temporary spare tire.
A few items could stand some improvement, however.
As EVs go, the Q8 e-tron isn’t especially fuel efficient (81
MPGe in combined driving). Additionally, the infotainment and
climate controls are distracting, the lane-keeping assist feature
is too aggressive, and the controls for adaptive cruise control
are confusing.
