Overall Observations
The Mercedes EQE SUV is a new-for-2023 premium midsize
electric SUV that shares components with the EQE sedan (see
page 86) and EQS sedan. We tested the base-level Premium trim
of the EQE 350+, which has a single electric motor on the rear
axle that produces 288 hp and an estimated range of 279 miles.
When it comes to the qualities that make for an outstanding
luxury SUV, the EQE pretty much nails it. Good looks? Check.
Plenty of smooth power and torque? Check. Comfortable
ride? Check. First-rate fit and finish? Plenty of room for
passengers and cargo? Quiet cabin? Lots of advanced safety
features? Check, check, check, and check. (Whew!)
The EQE's standard comfort and convenience features
include LED headlights with adaptive high beams, a power—sliding panoramic sunroof, a 12.8-inch infotainment touch screen,
and heated front seats. Most core advanced safety features are
standard. Enhanced advanced safety features, such as lane—change assistance and speed-limit assistance, are standard
on higher trim levels or as part of extra-cost supplemental
packages. (Our test vehicle had nearly $14,000 in options.)
We had only a few complaints: Visibility is hampered by wide
rear roof pillars. The infotainment system is complicated and
relies too much on touch-screen inputs (the audio volume is
controlled by a touch slider, for example). Finally, the brake-pedal
response sometimes left us unsure of the EQE's stopping ability.
