From article: “How Often Does Engine Oil Need To Be Changed?”

Myth: Car engines need an oil change every 3,000 miles.

Fact: This was previously true, but has not been the case for some time. New cars with more modern engine designs can go much longer between oil changes. You can drive anywhere from 5,000 miles to as much as 15,000 miles depending on the vehicle, type of motor oil and driving conditions. Regardless of a car's age and maintenance schedule, it is important to check the engine oil level at least once a month and top it off as needed. The space between the "full" and "low" marks on most engine oil dipsticks is equivalent to one quart of motor oil.
