What is Approved Auto Repair (AAR)?
Approved Auto Repair is a AAA member benefit designed to help direct a member to a pre-screened reputable automobile repair facility for quality auto repairs. AAR facilities sign agreements to provide reliable, high-quality service performed by ASE certified or manufacturer certified technicians. They are obligated to perform these repairs and such services which comply to industry standards.

Are Approved Auto Repair facilities the same as contractors that provide towing services for AAA?
No, but sometimes the contractors who tow for AAA through the Emergency Road Service Network, also have a repair facility that meets AAA’s high standards and requirements, and can qualify as an Approved Auto Repair facility.

If a shop has a "AAA" sign out front, does that mean they are AAA approved for repairs?
Only if the sign reads, "Approved Auto Repair."

How long has Approved Auto Repair been available to AAA members? And how do I find an approved facility?
AAR was established in 1975 in limited areas. It has been expanded to include more than 5,500 AAA Approved Repair facilities in the United States and Canada. Each year the program continues to expand, adding more approved facilities. For a complete list of AAR facilities within AAA North Penn's territory, contact your local AAA office.

What is the benefit of Approved Auto Repair to the AAA member?
AAA screens each facility for reliability, honesty, fair pricing, cleanliness, training of staff and stands behind the repairs performed, and will assist the member in the event of a dispute regarding those repairs.

What types of repairs are performed by Approved Auto Repair facilities?
AAR facilities must offer most general repairs and maintenance services and is designated by our services offered system. Offering more specialized repairs such as transmission, air conditioning or internal engine repairs, is optional.

What types of repair facilities belong to AAA's Approved Auto Repair Program?
The AAR network is made up of new car dealerships, national franchises, and independent repair facilities. Some NAPA AutoCare facilities are also  part of the network.

Are these shops only inspected the one time to gain entry into the Approved Auto Repair program?
No. These facilities undergo an annual re-inspection in an effort to uphold AAA’s high standards.

How does AAA know the shop continues to perform quality repairs?
Each Approved Auto Repair facility is required to provide customer satisfaction survey cards to AAA members who utilize their services. AAA members rate the service they received and return the survey card to AAA North Penn. This is an ongoing process, so the quality of service our member receives is constantly monitored.
