Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum, 40 Patriots Point Rd., is dominated by the USS Yorktown, an Essex class aircraft carrier that served in World War II and Vietnam. On board is the Medal of Honor Museum, showcasing individuals who have received the highest military honor.
Twenty-eight historic aircraft are displayed, and visitors can tour the ship's bridge, hangar bay, flight deck and other areas. Visitors can tour the destroyer Laffey, nicknamed the “Ship That Would Not Die” for surviving a concentrated Japanese kamikaze attack during World War II. The complex includes the Vietnam Naval Support Base Camp replica and the Cold War Submarine Memorial.
Guided tours are available. Food is available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
