AAA Inspector Notes
This classic New England turn-of-the-century resort has been fully restored into an unrivaled destination set within a spectacular natural setting along a pond and estuary, that is home to many birds. A full-time naturalist coordinates daily activities, including bird-watching, beach walks, craft-making, and nighttime stargazing. In the summer, guests can enjoy shuffleboard, bocce, kayaking, and paddleboard yoga on the calm pond waters. An electric boat cruise runs twice daily during the season, offering a guided history of the area. There is also access to a private ocean beach, with attendants available during the warmer months. Evenings bring the opportunity to enjoy s’mores by the outdoor fire pit, weather permitting. The resort offers a complimentary guest pantry stocked with daily snacks, beverages, and a self-serve gourmet coffee machine for espresso and cappuccino lovers. Originally opened in 1899, the resort moved to its picturesque Quonochontaug Pond location in 1939 after the Great Hurricane of 1938. It was fully restored in 2011, blending historic charm with modern luxuries like Matouk bedding, rain shower heads, and spa-quality bath amenities. Rooms feature a nostalgic intercom system instead of phones. In the winter, guests can relax by a crackling fireplace with a book and complimentary hot chocolate or apple cider, or explore the snowy landscape with snowshoeing. Guests also have access to the amenities at the sister property, the Ocean House in Watch Hill, including spa services and fine dining. The hotel staff can arrange reservations and complimentary transportation to and from. Smoke free premises. 33 units, some two bedrooms and kitchens. 2-4 stories, interior corridors.
