Johnstown Flood National Memorial

Johnstown Flood National Memorial is at 733 Lake Rd. The memorial is on the site of the former South Fork Dam. When the dam broke and sent a 40-foot wall of water crashing through the Conemaugh Valley in 1889, Johnstown was devastated and more than 2,200 people died. The visitor center presents a 35-minute film titled “Black Friday” and contains a model of the dam as well as exhibits about local geography and events leading up to the flood.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
