War Memorial, 101 N. Gay St. at jct. E. Fayette St., overlooks Memorial Plaza. This two-story Greek-style memorial, which opened in 1925 to pay homage to Maryland citizens who were killed in World War I, now honors all who died in Korea, Vietnam and the World Wars. The first floor displays memorabilia, photographs and uniforms; Memorial Hall, on the second floor, is an auditorium capable of seating 1,000 and features “Sacrifice to Patriotism,” a large mural encompassing the hall's entire rear wall.
