San Francisco Plantation

San Francisco Plantation is 3.25 mi. w. at 2646 River Rd. (SR 44). The 1856 house set amid 300-year-old live oaks is one of the finest examples of Steamboat Gothic architecture in southern Louisiana. Authentically restored, the house features hand-painted mural ceilings and period antiques. Also on the grounds are an 1830s slave cabin and 1840s schoolhouse. Tours are led by storytelling guides in period costume.
