Zoo Atlanta, 800 Cherokee Ave. S.E. in Grant Park, exhibits nearly 1,400 animals from around the world in naturalistic habitats. It is one of only four zoos in the country which houses giant pandas, including twins, and holds one of the nation’s largest collections of Western Lowland gorillas and Bornean and Sumatran orangutans. Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience houses more than 70 species of reptiles and amphibians in a variety of state-of-the-art habitats.
The Living Treehouse features a variety of African bird species as well as various species of smaller primates. Other animals include giant otters and African lions. An interactive children's splash fountain is available seasonally. Wild animal encounter programs are offered.
Picnicking is permitted in the zoo and in surrounding Grant Park.
