Phantom Canyon Road

Phantom Canyon Road (SR 67), 6 mi. e. on US 50 to SR 67, twists and turns for 35 miles through a canyon leading to Cripple Creek. Several old train tunnels cut through red rock formations. Phantom Canyon Road is part of the “Gold Belt Tour,” a national historical route. Another one of the legs of the tour is Shelf Road, also departing from the north side of Cañon City.

Note: This gravel road is narrow and winding and should not be attempted in an RV or by those unaccustomed to mountain driving. The posted speed limit is 20 mph; the drive takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Check road conditions before starting.
