Gatekeeper's Museum & Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum is just s. on SR 89 from jct. SR 28. The Gatekeeper's Museum is a reconstruction of the original gatekeeper's cabin, which served as the residence for the dam attendant. Included are historic photographs and displays about Lake Tahoe, natural history and pioneers.
The exhibit Ursus Among Us: The American Black Bear in the Tahoe Basin includes a taxidermy display as well as information about black bears and the history of their interactions with humans in the Tahoe Basin. The Steinbach Indian Basket Museum (located in the annex building) features the handiwork of more than 85 tribes in a collection of 900 baskets.
Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
